ChefLab is a dynamic, afternoon academy dedicated to hands-on, sensory-based, project-driven education. While ChefLab has long been recognized for its innovative approach, it now operates under the broader methodology of Essense, a learning framework that expands on ChefLab’s research to create interdisciplinary, whole-child educational experiences.

At ChefLab by Essense, General Studies is the foundation of learning, with all other subjects—including English, art, movement, and sensory exploration—designed to support and enrich core topics such as science, history, geography, and art history. This ensures that students engage with subjects in a meaningful, interconnected, and deeply experiential way.

Position Overview
We are seeking a Holistic & Project-Based General Studies Teacher to lead an engaging, interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. This teacher will work closely with a team of specialists to ensure that all learning experiences align with ChefLab’s research-backed approach—grounded in sensory learning, project-based education, and real-world connections.

This is a full-time position, structured uniquely: while direct teaching occurs in the afternoon, ample morning hours are dedicated to preparation, team collaboration, and curriculum development. This ensures educators have the time and support necessary to design meaningful, well-rounded learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead core General Studies subjects (science, history, geography, and art history) through a project-based, hands-on approach.
• Collaborate with a team of educators (English, art, movement, and other specialists) to integrate their subjects in a way that enhances and supports core General Studies topics.
• Design and implement interdisciplinary, experiential lessons that engage students in sensory learning, real-world connections, and multi-perspective exploration.
• Foster a student-centered classroom environment that encourages inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Utilize morning prep time effectively for curriculum planning, team collaboration, and research to enhance classroom learning.
• Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and curriculum updates.
• Ensure all lessons align with the broader methodology of ChefLab by Essense, emphasizing holistic, hands-on education.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications
• Education & Experience:
o Experience working with early elementary-aged children is a must.
o Bachelor’s degree in Education, Humanities, or a related field.
o Second degree (Master’s preferred) in Education or Special Education is highly desirable.
o Experience teaching science, history, geography, or art history in a creative, experiential, or project-based learning environment.
o Familiarity with differentiated instruction and working with mixed-age groups (including students with IEPs).
• Knowledge & Skills:
o Passion for holistic, project-based education and sensory learning approaches.
o Ability to integrate multiple subjects into a seamless learning experience.
o Strong collaboration and teamwork skills to coordinate interdisciplinary lessons.
o Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that go beyond traditional teaching methods.

• Personal Attributes:
o Creative, flexible, and open-minded in adapting to students’ needs.
o Highly organized with excellent time management skills to balance morning prep and afternoon teaching.
o Approachable and engaging, fostering a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment.

Opportunities for Growth
This role offers the potential for growth within ChefLab by Essense, as we continue to expand and refine our research-based learning methodology.
